Why hire a proofreader?

When you've spent so long on your academic work, it makes sense to ensure it's in the best possible state for submission. That's where I come in. Our brains are adept at ‘auto-correcting’ errors, so spelling and grammatical mistakes are naturally missed, as are repeated or missing words. A fresh pair of eyes will spot these, along with other issues, such as spacing and layout errors, lack of clarity, and style inconsistency.

What does my student service include?

I offer three levels of service, but if you require something more tailor-made, or are unsure which service your work fits in to, I am more than happy to discuss your requirements, to ensure you receive the best and most appropriate level of service. If you’d like me to provide a fixed quote, please contact me with the number of words in your thesis or dissertation and a sample of your writing (before proofreading, of course!). If you already know your schedule, please also tell me when your work will be ready for proofreading and when you’d like me to return it to you.

 

I use the Track Changes function In Word, allowing you to see the changes I propose, and read any comments or suggestions I may make. This enables you to remain in full control of your document by accepting or rejecting each suggestion individually. I also send you a Clean Copy, which shows your document as it appears with all changes accepted. I can send you guidance on how to use Track Changes if you require it.

What do I charge?

Basic Proofreading: £10 per 1000 words 
(Checks spelling, punctuation, and typos)

​

Editorial Proofreading: £12 per 1000 words 
(Same as Basic, but also performs grammar checks and ensures clarity)

​

Copyediting Proofreading: £14 per 1000 words 
(Same as Editorial, but performs restructuring of text to improve wording)

I also offer an Express Rate for documents needing a rapid turnaround. This higher rate will depend on the turnaround time and the level of intervention required.

Students receive a 10% discount when quoting PROOF10.

What does my student service not include?

Because your academic work will be assessed, it must be considered to be your own work. Therefore, I do not make changes to the overall structure or content. For example, I do not add to or remove text to fit a particular word count, or check the accuracy of quotes or statements.
