Privacy Policy

I, Shellie Marlowe, am registered as a sole trader, operating as Shellie Marlowe Proofreading, offering freelance editing and proofreading services to a variety of clients.

This privacy policy describes what data I require and how I use it, and shows how I am compliant with GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulations in force from 25th May 2018.

This privacy policy was last updated on 28th April 2018.

What information do I collect from you?

When you contact me, I request the following:

  • Your name

  • Your email address for me to respond to you

  • Project details, including word count and sample (if possible)

How do I use your data?

I use the data I collect as follows:

  • For my internal accounting processes (for example, to send invoices), and so that I comply with the requirements of my tax authority (HMRC)

  • To contact you in response to your enquiry or booking

Where do I store the data?

  • Emails. These are stored on my password-protected email account. I do not have an external address book.

  • PayPal. This is a password-protected payment service. I only use PayPal if you prefer not to pay by bank transfer. You can access PayPal′s privacy policy here.

  • Wix. This is my website host. It is password-protected and has SSL-certification (https) to provide an additional layer of security. You can access Wix’s privacy policy here.

  • Files. These are stored on my computer's hard disk. I can then delete them when you ask me to.

How long do I keep the data for?

Your personal data, i.e. name and email address, is kept for a minimum of five years to comply with my obligations to HMRC, the UK tax authority.

Unless requested otherwise, I will keep your files for the same length of time, though I am more than happy to delete them sooner if you request this.

Do I share your data?

Unless I am audited by HMRC, I do not share your data with anyone.

If you agree to provide a testimonial, I may include the name and details you provide.

I do not subcontract work, nor do I discuss your project with third parties or on the internet/social media without prior permission.

If you have any questions about what data I have about you or want me to remove you from my systems, please contact me.
